High Rise Penthouse with Balcony Garden

This garden, although on the 40th floor, gives a lush and restful appearance. The plantings consist of bamboo, ferns, hollies and rhododendrons, the dark green broad-leaved evergreens framing the view to the distant landscape, linking the two and leading the eye through and beyond.

Belvedere High Above the City

Overlooking city below, the landscaping is light and bright, making an oasis in the otherwise urban environment. The sculptural plantings and containers are part of the overall furnishing of the balcony, an example being the tall rectangular steel containers topped with evergreen spheres, dividing functional areas of the garden.

Residential Condominium

In the middle of the paved entry, enclosed by a ring of fastigiate evergreens, the fountain’s waterspout rises high into the air before falling twelve feet into the large sunken pool below. The visual axis extends to and through the foyer and down the allee of cherry trees to the rose-covered pergola at the property’s end.

The three-story foyer connects the two wings of the building, each centered on a courtyard enclosed on all sides by a three-tiered colonnade and treated like a giardino sereto, with it's fountain at the center and columnar evergreens at the four corners.

Townhouse Patio

The narrow backyard behind the townhouse is elevated above the floodplain of the nearby creek. The glass rail ensures that the vegetation toward the creek is not separated but works as an extension of the patio.

Clearing in the Woods

The courtyard, outlined by the two buildings and the hemlock and juniper hedge, forms the more formal core of the clearing. Continuing, landscaping is concentrated along the passage through the woods, across the creeks with their stone bridges, past orchards, meadows and flower borders to the enclosed kitchen garden with its rose arbor.
